The Gemsbuck or Gemsbok is from the Oryx family. It is a large antelope and inhabits the arid areas of southern Africa such as the Kalahari desert. These majestic animals can also be found on the national emblem of Namibia. Both male and female Gemsbuck have horns – the male has smaller, fatter horns whilst the female’s horns are longer and thinner. Gemsbuck is also a popular venison in South Africa.
View ProductThe Kudu is one of the largest species of antelope. Their horns can grow to as long as one metre – sometimes more – and are particularly recognisable because of their distinct double twist. Kudu is a popular meat in South Africa and is often used for biltong.
View ProductThe Blesbok or Blesbuck is unique to South Africa and is named for its distinguishing white face and forehead – bles is the Afrikaans word for blaze. When polished, its beautiful horns reveal a black and white striped pattern.
View ProductThe Springbok is perhaps the most well known antelope in Africa and gives its name to the South African rugby team. They live in large herds and both male and female animals have horns. Springbok is also one of the most widely eaten antelope in Africa.
View ProductThe Cube light displays a rich depth of colour due to the use of much larger horn panels than some of our other pieces. These natural colours contrast beautifully with the antique brass, offering a classic shape with a contemporary style.
